EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
The Development Director works collaboratively with the CBT team to advance its mission and goals while supporting its core values. Guide annual fund, community relations, major gifts, capital campaign, planned giving, special events, and volunteer services activities. Other essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Serve as the principal fundraising strategist and development officer for the CBT. Advise, prepare, and support the President and CEO and Board Members in fundraising to maximize the effectiveness of CBT's fundraising and community outreach efforts.
- Create and manage a program for the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of existing as well as prospective individual, business, foundation and other major donors.
- Represent the CBT at community events, as needed.
- Prepare departmental strategic plan with short- and long-range goals to meet the CBT funding objectives, Appoint, lead, evaluate, and manage development staff.
- Prepare and administer department budget, projecting and monitoring goals for both revenue and expense.
- Establish development policies, systems, and procedures, with a special emphasis on ethical standards for soliciting and reporting gifts and for exceeding the expectations of individual, corporate, foundation and government donors.
- Work closely with the President and CEO to serve the organization's top-most donors and board members and support stewardship strategies of these donors.
- Coordinate with Marketing Director to ensure integrated marketing and development activities and to produce website, print, CD, TV, and all media materials that enhance the CBT's image and promote its fundraising activities.
- Oversee the planning and execution of benefit events such as the Oscar Gala and fall fundraiser as well as any other banquets, balls, or auctions.
- Provide direction and oversight to ensure maximum net financial and institutional results from Special event efforts.
- Supervise the appropriate use of donor software, ensuring donor privacy, data accuracy and timeliness of reporting.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 7-10 years of senior development experience and a successful track record in a nonprofit organization. Demonstrated success in soliciting and securing major gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations and government sources is essential. Knowledge of contact management systems, databases, research or other donor relations tools is needed, as are superior skills on the internet and with spreadsheets, donor/relationship software and word processing systems.

DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE
Charleston Ballet Theatre (CBT) seeks a creative, energetic, and motivated Development Associate to provide strategic philanthropic support at a time when Charleston Ballet Theatre is expanding its artistic reach and institutional influence. The successful candidate will be a highly skilled and effective communicator. The candidate will be an excellent leader with proven fundraising accomplishments and a minimum of 2 years of experience in the development field
Candidates will demonstrate success working with a wide range of people and possess superior organizational and communication skills. The selected candidate will have the ability to support and inspire corporate and individual donors, volunteers, colleagues and staff to advance Charleston Ballet Theatre’s mission and vision. He/she will be savvy and smart with a sense of humor and a commitment to team-based management. A desire to work in a fast-paced environment with regular interaction with many stakeholders is needed. The purpose of this position is to provide assistance in organizing donor calls, planning fundraising and membership events, providing prospect and donor research and administrative support to the CBT fundraising efforts. The candidate reports to the Director of Development.
Duties
- Coordinates Development Committee meetings and collaborates with members of the committee to achieve CBT fundraising goals
- Maintains current database and mailing lists as wells as preparing the current database for future integration into a fundraising database
- Assists Executive Director, Marketing Director and Development Director in coordinating fundraising mailings and campaigns
- Manages and coordinates fundraising and membership events under the direction of the Development Director and Executive Director
- Maintains and writes all donor acknowledgment letters
- Provides stewardship to current donor base and cultivates new donors to CBT under the direction of the Director of Development and the Executive Director
- Creates and maintains a grant application calendar for all CBT foundation and corporate grant proposals
- Organizes important documentation and assists in writing of CBT foundation and corporate grant proposals under the direction of the Development Director
- Conducts research on prospects, including individuals, corporations and foundations identified by Development Director, Development Committee and Board as potential sources of funding.
- Participates in the formulation of fund-raising strategy for CBT’s specific fundraising campaigns and special projects
- Remains current with events and trends in local, national and international business, finance and philanthropy.
- Acquires and maintains current knowledge of public activities and internal projects, policies and procedures of CBT.
Knowledge of principles, methods and practices of the development profession in general and as it relates to a professional ballet company is preferred. Knowledge of research techniques and resources in the fields of philanthropy, business and the arts and humanities are also suggested for potential candidates. Proficiency of Microsoft Office is required. Knowledge and experience with fundraising software is preferred.
